I Heart You! Make a Heart Pillow

I Heart You! Make a Heart Pillow

DIY Home Décor DIY Throw Pillows DIY Valentine Ideas Sewingby Bobbie

Make a heart pillow and put it anywhere! I use it at Valentine’s Day and all through the year just to remind family and friends that I love them. I made this sweet little pillow from part of a distressed quilt. You can see that it has some tears and wear. That gives it texture and personality. It is not perfect, and I like it that way- sort of like lots of our own hearts. You can use a worn piece or something new for a more “perfect” look.

To make a heart pillow, simply cut out a heart the size you want. If you’d like, make a heart pillow pattern on paper. To make a heart pillow pattern, fold your paper in half, draw half of the heart starting at the folded edge. Then, cut along the drawn line. Open up the paper and you have a heart pattern! Just like you did as a child.

Use an old quilt or blanket if you want or find some new fabric that goes with your decor or makes you happy. This is also a nice project for old baby blankets. You could use several and piece them or simply turn that old “blankie” into a new pillow.

Cut out a back from the same or coordinating fabric. I used a muslin to complement the quilt.

Sew the front and back together, right sides to the inside. Leave a small section open. Turn the pillow right side out. You may need to clip the curves to help them lay smooth. Press. Stuff with fiberfill. Hand sew the opening closed using a whip stitch. Enjoy your heart all around the house. Here are some places I put mine.

Make some hearts! You will love them! In less than 30 minutes you will have a special pillow!
