I make ornaments every year for the children in my life. When trying to think of an idea for this year, my older sister reminded me of these yarn ornaments our mother made when we lived overseas growing up. I thought it would be perfect to make Christmas yarn ornaments this year!
I bought some pretty yarn, but you can use any yarn scraps you have around the house.
Start by making a basic tassel.

Then tie off about 1/4 down from where you have tied the yarn together for the tassel. This makes the head of the yarn doll.
Also, make a 2nd tassel that is a little smaller in length from the 1st tassel. These are the arms. Tie them off about 1/4 of the length on both sides.

Then, you put the smaller tassel for the arms through the middle of the bigger tassel, just under the tie off.

Next, tie again around the ‘waist’ of the yarn doll to secure the arms in place.

You are almost done! Now you just need to cut the loops on the end of the arms and the bottom of the tassel! Just slip your scissors in and pull slightly so that you get the cut even at the end. If there are few strays, you can always trim them up.

And, a finished Christmas yarn ornaments! Ready to adorn a package this year, and a tree next year!
