How to Make Beaded Tassels: DIY Tutorial

How to Make Beaded Tassels: DIY Tutorial

DIY Christmas Ornaments Off-Loom Bead Weavingby Lynn Woll

Make your own beaded tassels to decorate a pillow, embellish a quilt or even add as a tassel to hang on a knob on your china cabinet or more! Make two for a pair of earring, or wear one on a chain as a necklace! They are so easy to make and beautiful – you might end up with beaded tassels throughout your home!

Start by making a basic tassel, add some peyote stitch beads as a cap, then add some more beads to bling it out a little bit more, to make beaded tassels!

I used a glittery embroidery floss to make the basic tassel.

Beaded Tassels - all of the supplies and getting started

Here was a tassel I made and I build a section of peyote beading to make a cap for the tassel using seed beads. Making a basic tassel is so easy, you’ll never buy them again! When you make them yourself, you can make them with any fiber. Go to your local yarn shop and you’ll be overwhelmed with the possibilities!

Start your peyote beading, guesstimating the right size to make a cap for your tassel.

Beaded Tassels - forming the bead cap on the tassel

Once it was big enough to go around the top of the tassel, I ‘zipped’ it closed — I love when the beads come together so nicely!

I added some bigger beads at the top, and then the bottom of the peyote stitch.

And, then add more beads at the top to ‘bling’ it out.

Beaded Tassels - adding focal beads to set the tassel off

I auditioned several different sets of beads until I liked one arrangement.

Then, I added a string of beads to form a loop.
