This snap closure case can be used for your jewelry when you are traveling, or keeping any little things safe.
I found the pattern in the book “Sew-It-Yourself Home Accessories” by Cheryl Owen. She made it up as a Key Case, then added two rings on the inside to keep her keys. I knew this was the perfect little snap closure case for an upcoming gift exchange with friends.

Here is how I made these cute little cases, that I filled with buttons for each person for our annual button exchange!

How to Make a Snap Close Pouch
This little snap close pouch is perfect for small jewelry bag when traveling, keeping your ear buds in your purse, or a host of other ideas! I made them to be a wrap for buttons in an exchange with some of my sewing friends.
Materials
- 1/4 yard fabric
- 1/4 yard interfacing
- Snaps
Tools
- Sewing machine
- Scissors
- Tool to attach snaps to fabric, I used KAMSnap
Instructions
- Start by cutting two pieces of fabric from the pattern provided in the book. I used two different blue fabrics for this first one. Interface one of them with a heavier weight interfacing. This is what will give it some body and make it a sturdy little case.
- Sew them together with a 1/4" seam allowance, right sides together, leaving a 2″ or bigger opening in one of the longer sides so you can turn it right side out. Trim the corners, and snip the inner corners so it will turn nicely. Turn it right side out and press it well. Press the seam allowance in, where you turned the open seam.
- I went ahead and top stitched 1/4″ around the entire case. This closed the opening and gives a nice finished edge.
- Then, I fold each of the sides together, and sewed a 1/4″ seam for the edges of the case on my sewing machine. Now I have a box with a lid!
- I went to the ironing board and pressed each of the bottom edges of the case, and where the top flap is connected. Carefully fold in the sides and press again, making the case flat.
- Add a snap closure and you are done! I used a KAMSnaps KX8J Starter Press Kit It is so easy! I love it! The starter kit comes with a lot of colorful plastic snaps, as well as some metal snaps.
- The tool itself can do snaps, rivets and grommets. All you do is poke a hole in the case where you want the bottom (or top) snap, put the pieces through the hole and clamp with the tool. I’ve used other snap tools and they were hard to use, and half the time didn’t work. This was so easy, and I love all of the colors of snaps they carry!

I plan on making a bundle more of these cute little snap closure cases!

You can make these snap type cases any size you’d like. Just cut your fabric and interfacing different sizes. There are a lot of reasons to make these:
- Organizing collections of small things. You could pick a different fabric for each collection of items.
- The snap closure and folded edges make sure all of the contents stay in place. This makes it a perfect container for traveling with small items – they won’t fall out!
- The fabric and interfacing helps protect the contents with extra soft layers – keeping your prize possessions free from dust and accidental damage.
- The snap closure makes it easy to access – even for people who struggle with fine motor skills.
- These are versatile! You can keep your jewelry, cosmetics and toiletries and even your notions in your sewing space in custom cases! This size is perfect for carrying your ear buds, small charging cables and USB drives.
- And, they can use any fabric making them pretty or to fit the personality of the contents or the owner.
- They are perfect as gift wrap for small items, as I did with this batch.
