DIY Valentine Gifts for Dogs

DIY Valentine Gifts for Dogs

DIY Valentine IdeasDIY PET PROJECTSby Create Whimsy

Is Valentineโ€™s Day just for humans? I think not! Some of my favorite โ€œpeopleโ€ are dogs โ€“ good friends and members of the family. Canโ€™t leave them out, so here are a few DIY Valentine Gifts for Dogs, to include our furbabies in the Valentine festivities.

Most of these projects use small pieces of fabric – perfect stash-buster and scrap-buster projects for anyone that sews (and collects fabric!). Some are no-sew projects, all are beginner projects, easy for anyone with any sewing level can do to show your pooch how much you love and appreciate them with something special you made.

DIY Ideas for Dogs for Valentine's Day

Make sure your pup feels the love with one of these project ideas! Most of these projects are great stash-busters, using up fabrics you already have in your home. They are quick and easy, too. Don't forget your dog!

How to Make a Dog Bandana

Have fun making your dog festive bandanas for every occasion! You can find all kinds of fabrics in a variety of prints, from supporting your favorite football team, to holidays or just sporting a fun print!

A perfect stash-buster project, using only a small piece of fabric - even for big dogs!

How to Make a Dog Tutu

Make a basic pattern customized for your dog and it's easy to make a dog tutu. Use a stretchy fabric, like Spandex, for a good fit. Close with velcro so it is easy to take on and off, and get a close fit.

Use several colors of tulle to give the tutu ruffles more interest.

Have fun and enjoy your fur baby in a tutu. Here is Pixel sporting her red tutu!

How to Make a Snap On Dog Scarf

Snaps make it easy to take on and off a dog scarf.

I know you've been there. The bandana is tied on so securely around your pups neck and you can't get the knot undone. Or, you're on a walk and the knot comes undone and off with the bandana. With a snap on scarf, there are no knots to do or undo!

Super simple and quick project. Another great stash-buster project, and if you have a small furry baby in your life, this is even a scrap-buster project!

How to Make a Dog Tug Toy

Use up some fabric scraps by making this dog toy. This is a great stash-buster project to use up some of those scraps of fabric!

With only four strips of fabric, this no-sew project is super quick and will provide hours of fun for your dog.

DIY Dog Toy Basket

Make a dog toy basket that is durable and will fit ALL of the toys and balls your dog loves! This was easy to make and when it gets dirty (it will with muddy toys and paws on a rainy day!), just toss it into the washer and dryer and it is like new again!

How do you celebrate Valentine’s Day with a dog?

You can make your dog something special with one or more of our project ideas above, but more importantly, take time to celebrate the love they give you everyday, without judgement or talking back – with them! Here are some ideas to celebrate Valentine’s Day with your pooch:

  • Take them on a their favorite walk. Do they love to sniff? Find a great place with new smells, just for them!
  • Do they love to chase the ball? Spend an extra five (or more!) minutes tossing the ball for them and rewarding them when they bring the ball back with a little extra love, and maybe a treat!
  • Allow them to get on the couch or bed and make sure there is plenty of belly rub time!
  • Give them a treat just because! Don’t make them do anything, just surprise and delight them with an extra one (or two!) to show your love.
  • Plan your Valentine dinner at a restaurant patio where they allow dogs – let you dog be part of the festivities! If they aren’t the kind of dog that likes that, stay home on Valentine’s night, it’s crazy anyway and fix a lovely homemade meal.
