If you haven’t tried making one of Doreen Speckman’s Norwegian Chicken Pincushions, you’ll love their versatility. This is a present for a St Louis Cardinal Fan. I weight the bottom with BB’s encased in a plastic bag. That way they stay put better 🙂 Here is my St Louis Cardinal Pincushion (go, Mariners)!

These chicken pincushions are easy and fun to make, so they are a quick project. You don’t need much fabric, so you probably have several great choices in your stash right now! You’ll need a little bit of matching or contrasting fabric for the head feathers, a little itty bitty piece for the beak – make it any color you’d like! And, then I used a sequin with a large bead for the eye, but you could use a button that looks like an eye, or just a button, or just a bead! There are so many different variations, make one for your sewing and quilting friends for their special day – or make one for yourself in your favorite colors!
Some people like to stuff their pin cushions with ground up pecan or walnut shells, too. That helps keep your pins and needles sharp. They’re not always easy to find, so it’s your choice!
Have fun!
