Peyote Stitch Bead Tube Necklaces

Peyote Stitch Bead Tube Necklaces

Handmade Necklaces Off-Loom Bead Weavingby Kathy Manley

This blue multistrand necklace the first of my peyote stitch Bead Tube Necklaces. I had taken a class at QuiltWorks Northwest and Beads & Beyond a while back, learning how to make the peyote stitch bead tubes. During the summer, I decided I wanted to make a bracelet, but I enjoyed the process so much I ended up making enough bead tubes for a necklace! Jewelry findings made for the purpose allowed me to make a three-stranded necklace very easily – and I had enough bead tubes to make it.

Delica cylinder seed beads make perfect little peyote stitch beaded beads. Their shape makes them stack and nest as they are stitched. It’s kind of like building a brick wall, but with beads and thread! I used size 11 Delicas to make the bead tubes with proportions that are just right for stringing.

Here is a great how-to article on making peyote stitch beading.

Blue bead tube necklace

The second peyote stitch bead tube project is a long rope type necklace that I can wear many different ways. It took a while, but it was worth it! The tubes have a pattern using gold as the accent color against a bright colored bead.

A close up of the beads on my second necklace is below. Once you start making these beads from little seed beads, you won’t stop! It’s a great way to use up some leftover beads from projects. It’s also a good reason to go bead shopping!
