Laurie Schmidt Headshot

Laurie Schmidt

Renton, WA

Born in Hawaii, Laurie Schmidt brings a bit of aloha and mahalo to everything she does, especially to her creative pursuits. Laurie has never met a craft she didn’t like and embraces each new medium with curiosity and wonder. Her work is meticulous, whether she creates with fabric, beads, clay, flowers, food, music or dance. Hula is dear to her heart.

When you look at Laurie’s work, you will see bright, cheerful colors and precision workmanship. A manic Seattle Seahawks fan, Laurie works comfortably in the team colors of lime, blue and gray and wears the colors proudly on game day. But the range of her creations encompass the entire color wheel. Whether she is English paper piecing, beadweaving, sewing, quilting or knitting, she finds new ways to make it work. Her polymer clay creations are sure to inspire a smile with the sense of humor Laurie brings to her tiny sculptures.

Laurie’s art is often inspired by the changing seasons, holidays and significant life events. From baby quilts to wedding cake toppers to game day jewelry to Christmas ornaments to lucky St. Patrick’s Day charms, there is always a reason to make a happy gift. And Laurie does it joyfully!

Bead Crochet Bracelets

Bead Crochet Bracelets

Bead crochet! I can't stop making bangle bracelets using seed beads and a tiny crochet hook. I've made them in team colors, for holidays and occasions.
Finished bracelet made with superduo beads

Superduo Bracelets

I love making jewelry with Superduo beads, especially bracelets. This project adds leather cord, thread and a button. The technique is off-loom beadweaving.
