Jennifer Morrow

Jennifer Morrow

And, a little more about Jennifer . . .

How did you learn to sew?

My Mother and Grandmother taught me to sew as soon as I could handle a needle and thread.  I learned how to use the sewing machine as soon as I could reach the peddles.  I was making pillows and crafts galore with any scrap fabric left over from my Mom’s projects.

What other types of hobbies do you have?

I love photography and making travel videos on my YouTube channel.

What is your favorite storage tip for your sewing supplies?

As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases. Read more about our affiliate linking policy.

Clear acrylic boxes so I can stack them and see what is in each.  Fabric?  I store my fabric in rolls, stacked like logs with the edge showing.  Again, clear storage is my favorite to easily find the colors and specific fabric that I am looking for.

How often do you start a new craft or hobby project?

I always have at least 5 projects going at any time!  I will finally find a fit of energy and complete three projects in one sitting, then start 5 more.  It is a losing battle to complete all of my projects in progress.  There is always another great plan for that last scrap of fabric, or a project good that will be even better next time.

What inspires your sewing and crafts?

I love the custom aspect of making something to my exact specifications.  I will never find the perfect curtains, dress, or design off-the-rack.  When I make it myself, it is exactly how I want it.

When you are in your creative mood, do you listen to music, watch tv or do you prefer a quiet spot?

Sewing and crafts is my quiet time.  Just the hum of the sewing machine and a snoring dog (or cat).

What is your favorite tip for sewing?

Plan ahead! I lay out my patterns multiple ways before finally cutting fabric.  I will pin, and repin for the best fit before sewing.  I also buy extra fabric, for just in case.  Sometimes I decide that I want to alter the pattern to make it bigger/longer, and I have the option with extra fabric.  Or I want to make a matching accessory (head bands, I love head bands).

Do you have a favorite tool to help you succeed at your projects?

My seam ripper and I have a love/hate relationship.  I hate to mess up and have to rip out a stitch.

Anything else?

I write a travel and lifestyle blog at JenThereDoneThat.com and share my love of fashion at 2MorrowsDress.com.

Adding Side Pockets

Adding Side Pockets to an Existing Garment

It's easy to add an on-seam pocket to an already-finished dress or skirt with a simple pattern. One of those times when you are supposed to use a seam ripper!
