Perfect LEGO display shelf
What do you do with your LEGO collection? The big expensive sets you want to keep out of reach of dog tails and small children (the ones with a penchant for swallowing nonedible items) but you still want to admire your work. Here is how to make the perfect LEGO display shelf!
My solution was to use 1/2″ plexiglass or clear acrylic bolted to metal shelf brackets. I used machine/stove bolts and counter sunk to the top of the shelf. Instead of a standard nut, I used acorn nuts which have a rounded end that gives the project a polished look.
I recommend mounting to studs but if that’s not available, drywall anchors will work, as long as you aren’t going to display something heavy on the shelf. They work fine for a LEGO piece of work!
Using the clear shelf material allows me to see the completed project even if mounted close to the ceiling.
This type of shelf would be perfect for other model displays, especially air and space craft models since the clear nature of the plexi will give those items more of an “in flight” look without hanging from the ceiling.
Enjoy your works of art, and hard labor creating complex LEGO projects by displaying them on plexi glass shelves!
