After a fun shopping adventure, we found the perfect wedding dress for my daughter-in-law, and it fit her almost perfectly right off the rack! Now, to search for the perfect veil. But the veils we saw were either super-basic or very elaborate. Katie wanted something in-between that was pretty but wouldn’t steal attention from the dress. She loved her handmade Pearl and Crystal Embellished Wedding Veil!
Starting with a 54-inch square of tulle I rounded the corners for a graceful line. I hand stitched narrow lace trim around the veil to finish the edge. After gathering the center of the tulle veil onto a plain hair comb, I added freshwater pearls and a few Swarovski crystals in pale peach, pink and ivory. A word of caution when working with Swarovski crystals: the bead holes have very sharp edged that can cut ordinary beading or sewing thread. I used Fireline nylon braided beading thread. Fireline damages your good scissors. To save your expensive cutters, “invest” in kindergarten scissors to cut Fireline. Then you can safely add the crystals.
Katie’s dress had a pale pink sash, and the pearls picked up the color for a unified look. The crystals matched the sparkle in the groom’s eyes when he saw his bride.
