Many, many years ago I dated a guy who was really into photography and also had a ton a spare change lying around, like all over his floor lying around. His place was like walking through a drained wishing fountain. So I decided for Christmas (and then Valentine’s day when I didn’t get it done by Christmas) I would give him a piggy bank that looked like a camera – a camera bank! Well, the relationship didn’t last to the new year but I had already invested a lot of time into this project and with the encouragement of my mother I finished it anyway.
I used a black clay body. Everything was slab built and hand carved. The color comes from acrylic paint. I kept the camera model in a Ziploc bag while I worked to try to be as accurate as possible.
My original intention was for the lens to rotate off and that’s how you would retrieve the change. That’s highly difficult and was abandoned quickly. The shutter speed knob on top was made to remove instead. The film advance switch also was loose to act as a coin slot.
