Learn more about Comfortably.Nerdy:
I am a nerd who likes to find creative ways to celebrate that part of me. Working in multiple mediums from quilting to ceramics to woodworking to general craftiness, I feel any medium is an appropriate medium for nerdom. Normally I bounce around between projects, never focusing on any one thing at a time. I make things for my loved ones and for myself.
Started in school art classes in elementary school. Got into ceramics at 12. Started dabbling in quilting about 14, but didn’t really get into it until my late 20s. Woodworking came in college.
While a lot of my focus is on “nerdy” and “geeky” inspirations, what really matters is making something with a strong connection to the recipient. Whether that’s including a reference to family history or picking fabric prints that combined add some message to the piece. Sure, lots of things are pretty and cool for the sake of pretty and cool; but going into another layer or a deeper connection is what makes that homemade gift just a bit sweeter.
That’s also a great thing about being a nerd/geek. It’s a personal journey. You can still be a nerd and love to watch shows like Critical Role or Acquisitions Incorporated but never played Dungeons and Dragons. You can love comic books but not like film adaptations and vice versa. And if you are into Star Trek and want to go deeper, you totally can and read the novels and/or comic books, but you don’t have to. There’s no benchmark to embrace being a nerd.
