Felting fibers can be done with either wet or dry fibers to produce a matted and condensed product that can either be 2 or 3 dimensional. It is a traditional technique for creating fiber creations, including garments, hats and even art.
Dry felting is also referred to as needle felting, where a specialty needle that is very sharp is used to literally merge the fiber into a base. This method is more commonly used for 3D items like small objects. All you need to get started is some fluffy wool and a needle.
Wet felting is laying fibers over a base and then wetting it down, rolling it up and manipulating the bundle until the fibers are merged. This method is traditionally used for wraps and clothing. Natural and synthetic fibers can be used for both wet and needle felting.
